چکیده

Plant Essential Oils and their constituents are well-known for properties as antimicrobial agents labeled Generally Recognized Safe (GRAS), prompting studies around usage in the control of food-borne microorganisms phytopathogens. In this study, we evaluated Oregano Oil (OEO), Thymol (THY) Carvacrol (CAR) Xanthomonas citri subsp. ( X. ). vitro antibacterial assays revealed that CAR THY inhibit growth at concentrations 100 µg.mL -1 114 , lower than OEO (136 Bactericidal effects were observed 400 200 ug.mL THY. Investigating potential cellular targets compounds showed after 30 minutes exposure up to 84% cells had membranes disrupted, implicating membrane primary target. Phytotoxicity evaluations using Lactuca sativa Solanum lycopersicum seeds an acute toxic effect all treatments above except S. concentrations. Regarding protective on citrus leaves, no when compared untreated (0.39 0.50 lesions per cm 2 respectively). able reduce significantly canker symptoms (0.18 0.11 addition, leaves treatments. inhibits development lesions. These results show a viable alternative be used management.

Susceptibility of methicillin-resistant staphylococci to oregano essential oil, carvacrol and thymol.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the susceptibility of methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant staphylococci (MSS, MRS) to oregano essential oil, carvacrol and thymol. The commercial aerial parts of Origanum vulgare L. were hydrodistilled and the essential oil analysed by gas- chromatography/electron impact mass spectrometry. The inhibition efficacy of this essence and its major ...

Antiviral activity of the Lippia graveolens (Mexican oregano) essential oil and its main compound carvacrol against human and animal viruses

Mexican oregano (Lippia graveolens) is a plant found in Mexico and Central America that is traditionally used as a medicinal herb. In the present study, we investigated the antiviral activity of the essential oil of Mexican oregano and its major component, carvacrol, against different human and animal viruses. The MTT test (3-4,5-dimethythiazol-2yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) was conduct...

A study of the minimum inhibitory concentration and mode of action of oregano essential oil, thymol and carvacrol.

AIMS The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of oregano essential oil (OEO) and two of its principle components, i.e. thymol and carvacrol, against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus was assessed by using an innovative technique. The mechanism of action of the above substances was also investigated. METHODS AND RESULTS The applied technique uses 100-well microtitre plate and ...

Control of Clostridium perfringens in cooked ground beef by carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde, thymol, or oregano oil during chilling.

Inhibition of Clostridium perfringens spore germination and outgrowth by carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde, thymol, and oregano oil was evaluated during abusive chilling of cooked ground beef (75% lean) obtained from a local grocery store. Test substances were mixed into thawed ground beef at concentrations of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, or 2.0% (wt/wt) along with a heat-activated three-strain C. perfringens spore ...

Increase in activity of essential oil components carvacrol and thymol against Escherichia coli O157:H7 by addition of food stabilizers.

The major components of oregano and thyme essential oils that had previously been shown to inhibit Escherichia coli O157:H7 were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection and liquid chromatographic tandem mass spectrometry. The MICs and MBCs of carvacrol, thymol, p-cymene, and gamma-terpinene against a strain of E. coli O157: H7 phage type 34 isolated from bovine fe...
